The Difference in the Manner of Interacting with a Moving Robot Influences Animacy Perception
نویسندگان
چکیده
We experimentally examined whether differences in the manner of interacting with a moving robot (actually operating it vs. only observing its motions) influenced animacy perception and whether the strength of this influence could be changed in relation to the robot’s motions, which exhibited a degree of goal-directedness. We found that perceived animacy was higher for a robot that exhibited more goaldirectedness when participants only observed its motion. This was consistent with the results of previous works. On the other hand, perceived animacy was the highest for a robot that moved with 1/f noise (showing moderate goal-directedness) when participants actually operated the robot. This result suggests that the manner of interacting influences animacy perception.

Adaptive Control Strategy for a Bilateral Tele- Surgery System Interacting with Active Soft Tissues
In this paper, the problem of control and stabilization of a bilateral tele-surgery roboticsystem in interaction with an active soft tissue is considered. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, theprevious works did not consider a realistic model for a moving soft tissue like heart tissue in beating heartsurgery. Here, a new model is proposed to indicate significant characteristics of a moving ...
متن کاملOn a Moving Base Robotic Manipulator Dynamics
There are many occasions where the base of a robotic manipulator is attached to a moving platform, such as on a moving ship, terrain or space shuttle. In this paper a dynamic model of a robotic manipulator mounted on a moving base is derived using both Newton-Euler and Lagrange-Euler methods. The presented models are simulated for a Mitsubishi PA10-6CE robotic manipulator characteristics mounte...
متن کاملInvestigations into the Motion Cues Eliciting a Perception of Animacy an Investigation into the Motion Cues Eliciting a Perception of Animacy
The perception of animacy judging an object as appearing alive is a fundamental social perception dating back to Piaget. The present research investigates motion to examine how and when people will perceive an ambiguous moving object as appearing alive. Chapter 1 uses a number of methods to illustrate that people will judge a relatively faster-moving object as appearing alive more often than an...
متن کاملThe influence of spatial context and the role of intentionality in the interpretation of animacy from motion.
We present three experiments investigating how spatial context influences the attribution of animacy to a moving target. Each of our displays contained a moving object (the target) that might, depending on the way it moved, convey the impression that it was alive (animate). We investigated the mechanisms underlying this attribution by manipulating the nature of the spatial context surrounding t...
متن کاملEffects of Moving Landmark’s Speed on Multi-Robot Simultaneous Localization and Mapping in Dynamic Environments
Even when simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) solutions have been broadly developed, the vast majority of them relate to a single robot performing measurements in static environments. Researches show that the performance of SLAM algorithms deteriorates under dynamic environments. In this paper, a multi-robot simultaneous localization and mapping (MR-SLAM) system is implemented within a...
